Applied Journalism & Media Communication

The one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Journalism & Media Communication combines coursework on journalism and the media industry with a professional media internship.

This post graduate diploma course in journalism equips aspiring journalists and future media practitioners with the core skills required for success in their profession: high-quality and consistent communication, writing and editing skills.

The programme draws from the best practices of renowned journalism schools and media studies programmes all across the world to ensure that students will learn what it takes to be a practicing journalist. From the outset, students write actual articles and stories about events and happenings in and around Delhi. The required skill sets and attitudes are inculcated and nurtured in the students by extensive feedback from experienced media practitioners and journalists, peer reviews, and mentorship.

The course begins with an intensive five-month term of foundation classes that prepare students for their future careers in the media. Sessions by international media professionals and academics help students quickly assimilate the essential skills that are required by media practitioners. Students are also introduced to the fundamental concepts needed to understand the media industry, its history and its future.

A professional internship with a media company commences after completion of the first term. The students gain on-the-job professional training for five days a week while they continue their formal education in classes held on every Saturday. This structure allows students to test out and apply the ideas and skills that they have learned in class to real-life situations and to reflect upon and learn from their professional experiences with teachers, mentors and one another in the classroom.

Holistic development of students is ensured by conducting regular sessions in the campus on counseling, stress management, positive thinking and leadership capabilities. This is done to equip students to handle pressure in the ever changing dynamics of the journalism industry and perform like true leaders.

This course is offered in partnership with the 9.9 School of Convergence. For more information visit http://schoolofconvergence.com
