MOTION PICTURE EDITING (FILM EDITING) COURSE
The Motion Picture Editing course introduces students to the world of cinematic storytelling through film editing. It trains the students to explore the interplay of time and space in audio-visual terms. This film editing course emphasizes the aesthetics of image juxtaposition with plenty of practical exercises.
Students of the Motion Picture Editing course also get the opportunity to discuss screenplays with students from Film Direction & Screenplay Writing Course. Technical knowledge about film editing is imparted to the student in a systematic manner, enabling them to take responsibility of the storytelling process as an idea is translated from a script to a film. Thus the student of the film editing course is able to put into practice both the editing aesthetics and the rhythmic aspects of converting the director's input to films. They also learn the post production workflows in various formats such as Celluloid, DV, HDV & HD.
Each student taking specialization in the Motion Picture Editing (Film Editing) course works on a minimum of 3 short fiction and 1 documentary film from the 2nd semester onwards. This gives ample opportunity to the student of the film editing course to learn from experience and through making mistakes. Thus, the film editing student gets sufficient time to evaluate his/her strengths and aptitudes as well as areas of improvement before venturing out into a filmmaking career.
The Motion Picture Editing course equips the students with understanding of the grammar of cinema and the power of film editing in both fiction and documentary genres. After a film is shot, the editor becomes the most critical person on the crew, shaping the film according to the vision of the director. The film editing student will have the choice of joining the following establishments:
- Production houses
- Television channels
- Ad & Corporate production houses
- Film production houses
- Multimedia production houses

Student must have 1 TB hard drive with Fire-wire port and a PC/Mac laptop.
Please note: Travel, lodging & boarding expenses for all trips have to be borne by students. The facilities are basic, clean and reasonable. The course bears the cost of additional faculty, facilities and equipments.
The first semester of the film making course contains the foundation modules which are common for all students. Every student works in every module individually.

From the second semester the students selecting the Motion Picture Editing (Film Editing) course start getting special inputs in their chosen area. However, they work with students from other disciplines together in common sessions on film and allied aesthetics as well as for production of short films.
