Certificate Weekend Course in Painting and Sketching

The natural world around us is full of objects shapes, sizes, forms, colours, and lines. Perhaps this fired the imaginations of our ancestors to represent them in sketches and paintings. And slowly, the human mind started making images out of its own feelings in its mind and started drawing fantastic imagery on a canvas. Thus, to paint even abstract forms, the journey begins by looking at nature first, and then representing them on a canvas.

The course is designed to give expression to one’s visual thoughts on a canvas. To develop one’s drawing skills, one will go through various exercises aimed at improving their skills to represent nature’s designs on paper. Textures and colour will be added later to the practice so that you grow as an artist to represent your mental images better. Slowly one will explore one’s own emotional images and start representing them with a brush.

This will help in bringing out the creative self in the person which is hugely therapeutic in nature. This re-connection with ones creative self within will manifest in other areas of one’s life.

The desire to create something new has been a natural instinct for humankind throughout existence. For those who get the opportunity to nurture and express this creativity, the opportunities that life has to offer become vivid and multi-dimensional. They look for innovative solutions, no matter which field they are in.

Exploring one’s creativity through the visual medium is a journey filled with wonder, learning and immense joy. This is evident in the way even an infant responds to colour and the merriment of children playing with crayons and paints.

The painting and sketching class for the kids is designed to recognise and build this inherent imaginativeness and help the students express their thoughts and ideas in a visual way. The class is conducted with an individualistic approach, where each student is encouraged to explore their own style through a variety of two and three dimensional media.

Born in 1981 in Delhi, Chetnaa Verma completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Painting from the College of Art in the city. The core of her art focuses on geometricism and lines reflective of the urban metroscape. Her drawings and paintings, formed by moving points, and their grouping and ungrouping, take on an abstract oeuvre as they are then developed into unified compositions. The concept of her lines is straight and simple and yet balanced in its discourse. She has been a part of many exhibitions in Delhi, Chandigarh, Chennai and Brussels. Currently her work is moving into a new direction with experimentation in installations with laser lights though it continues to conform to the ethos of her geometrical drawings.

The artist has received AIFACS, All India Drawing Award, Emerging Artist of the Year by Glenfiddich and Best College Art Award. Her works are in the collection of the College of Art Museum as well some private collectors in India. The artist lives in Noida and works from her studio at home.
