Editing and Sound Design Course Curriculum

 
 
Editing and sound recording course is designed keeping in mind that editing is key to cinema. Thus, though the course is conducted on digital non-linear editing consoles, is equivalent to film editing courses of premier film schools. Additionally the students are introduced to basic of sound design courses aimed at designing sound for films. This is done keeping in mind that, in the age of low cost filmmaking in digital video, most editors are being expected to design sound structure of the films besides editing. Besides these the students also participate in production productions of exercises by recording location sound and maintaining continuity sheets to get an overall perspective of film making. This gives them confidence to venture into the industry accepting diverse challenges and roles.

Semester II

 
This semester is aimed at imparting an overall introduction to basics of editing, editing software and various editing patterns. The fundamental constituents of narrative structures, montage theory and concept of time and space are taught with the help of discussion and analysis of landmark films from around the world. The cleaning of sound from the recorded material and creating the right aural design that supports the visuals to tell the story effectively is analysed. Experienced professionals from the industry are invited to organise workshops to impart specialized technical skills in editing patterns.

Semester III (Common Module)

 
After the learning of two semesters, the third semester is again a time for students from all streams to collaborate together. This semester is dedicated for students to showcase their learning of the subject by making a diploma film. The film can be either a short fiction of not more than 10 minutes or a documentary of not more than 15 minutes. These films work as a portfolio for the students which they can showcase for their professional career ahead.
