SOUND RECORDING & DESIGN COURSE

The Sound Recording & Design course introduces students to the cinematic and other types of storytelling through sound. The course is also similar to Audio Recording courses offered elsewhere. Various kinds of audio recording, sound design and sound mixing situations are created for the students to get hands on exposure.

Students of Sound Recording & Design also get the opportunity to discuss screenplays with students from Direction & Screenplay Writing Course. They participate in production processes to fully understand their creative contribution to the filmmaking process. (For more details go to the Common Modules section here)

Students are made to comprehend the importance of sound in story telling in a structured fashion. Their learning of the aesthetics and technicalities of audio recording and sound design enables them facilitate the storytelling process of an idea being translated from a script to film. The student is able to record and design the soundscape of a film based on the director's input. Audio post production workflows in various formats such as Celluloid, DV, HDV & HD is also taught in this audio recording course.

Students who specialize in the Sound Recording & Design course work on at least three short fiction and one documentary film from the 2nd semester onwards. . This gives enough scope to learn from experimenting and error. Thus, the student gets sufficient time to evaluate his/her strengths and aptitudes as well as areas of improvement before venturing out into a filmmaking career.

The Sound Recording & Design course equips the students with all the skills required for audio recording and sound design so that they can use the power of sound in both fiction and documentary genres of cinema. A sound professional who is creatively and technically proficient is always in demand in the vast media industry. The sound recording student will have the choice of working at the following kinds of organizations:

  • Television channels
  • Production houses
  • Ad & Corporate production houses
  • Radio Channels
  • Film production houses
  • Multimedia production houses
Some of our students have chosen to work as freelance professionals, recording and designing sound on independent and short films. This is a choice which is initially difficult in terms of career but is eventually creatively satisfying.
Qualification:
Graduates from any discipline
Admission is subject to an aptitude test followed by orientation & interview

Student must have 1 TB hard drive with Fire-wire port and a PC/Mac laptop.

Please note: Travel, lodging & boarding expenses for all trips have to be borne by students. The facilities are basic, clean and reasonable. The course bears the cost of additional faculty, facilities and equipments.

The first semester of the film making course contains the foundation modules which are common for all students. Every students works in every module individually.

From the 2nd semester, the students selecting the Sound Recording & Design course start getting special inputs in their chosen area. However they work with students from other disciplines together in common sessions on film and allied aesthetics as well as for production of short films.
