Kavita Nayar

Kavita received her bachelor’s degree at Shantiniketan (west Bengal) and masters from College of Art, New Delhi. She was awarded French Govt. scholarship to work in lithography & etchings at Cite International Des Arts & Ecole des Beaux Arts in1985-86.

Later in 1990 she was fortunate to work under a master printer in serigraphy in Luxembourg when she was offered a creative Fund fellowship. In 1996 she went to Ruskin School of Art, Oxford (England) as a senior fellow with the fellowship of Charles Wallace India Trust.

Her works have been shown at major international shows including the International Triennale of prints in Grenchen, Switzerland; Print Biennale in Japan; Bharat Bhavan in Bhopal, India; International Prints Exhibition in Poland; Print Biennale of Gyor in Hungary.

She has been recipient of the senior and junior fellowships from the ministry of Human Resource Dept. in India for outstanding work in Visual Art and also recipient of Bharat Nirman award. In 2001 she was awarded the Honourable Mention in the 44th National exhibition by The National Akademi of India, Lalit Kala Akademi. Has been one of the earlier awardees of Lalit Kala Research grant way back in 1984-85. Was invited to participate in the 10th Triennale of India in 2001. She has held many solo shows in India & abroad including the Bose Pacia Modern in New York and Oxford University in England; Otterbien University in Ohio, USA, Attended International Workshops in Sweden, Paris, Mauritius & Hungary.

She has been teaching as visiting faculty at the College of Art, South Delhi Polytechnique, National Inst.of Fashion Design (NIFT) in New Delhi.

Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Mauritius and as visiting professor at the Dept. of Fine Arts in Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi.

She is invited by various institutes to conduct workshops for the students in Print -Making. Jury member for the post graduate prorammes of NIFT, New Delhi; Kala Bhawan, Shantiniketan; College of Art, New Delhi, AIFACS and Trade Fair Authority of India.

Kavita’s works are in the collections of museums in India, Paris, Poland, Germany, and Sweden& United States. Also in major corporate houses & institutions in India & abroad including the Prime minister’s House in New Delhi.

At present along with freelancing and teaching ,she is trustee of an NGO Kala Sakshi Memorial Trust, which is involved in scholarship and mentoring workshops to give platform to young and deserving students of art.
