Gaurav Wadhwa is building India’s first ‘Blockbuster’ independent music label as the Co-Founder and CEO of Big Bang Music. Bringing seasoned as well as new indie artists and non-film music content in focus, the idea is to build musicians into iconic pop stars. From building their unique musical identities to launching their own brands to uplifting their careers, Big Bang Music aims to do it all.
An ardour of content and music, Gaurav Wadhwa’s career spans over a decade working with leading advertising and media agencies. Among varied exceptional achievements in his name, the launch of the DreamSpark Project with Bill Gates secures the top shelf due to its spectacular impact.
Post a brief stint in the world of advertising, Gaurav Wadhwa joined MTV, where he curated their music and film strategy. Further to that, he was also instrumental in creating brand IPs for mega global brands such as 7Up and Adidas.
His stint with Red Bull India (2009-12) allowed him to explore different horizons which lead to shaping his personality and the approach towards taking decisions. Adapting and building Red Bull’s unique marketing strategy to India’s challenging cultural fabric, inculcated penchant for a creative, passion focused ideation approach. Along with Gaurav’s creative adaptability and Red Bull’s ahead-of-the-curve marketing strategy, they created award-winning initiative and received a mass appreciation around the same.
While with Pepsico India, Gaurav was the GM Marketing and Innovations & Platforms where he successfully led a new brand and music platform integration. It was his passion and longstanding relationship with the music industry that led birthed the initiative to bring independent artists in light. In 2014, Pepsi MTV Indies went live and received a high impact and served as a turning point for the brand.
To pursue his passion for music and content, Gaurav joined SAAVN Media as Vice President and Business Head – Entertainment and Original Content. He worked towards making the brand grow to be a strong original content streaming brand via disruptive marketing and differentiated content.
He created the first ever Podcasting ecosystem in India through Saavn Originals. Co-created India’s most disruptive digital show – #NoFilterNeha that paved the way to a new way of marketing OTT content in India. Launched a data backed music curation platform that eventually gave hits like “BomDiggy”. Successful launch & execution of Saavn’s Original Programming eventually led to their mega merger with Jio.
With support from KWAN and Sony Music along with other curation partners Gaurav aims to create a new ecosystem in the music business here in India.
