Moving On
By Shilpi Rawat

And just like that,
the leaf decided to leave the branch
that clutched it tight through wind and storm.
It flew away to the far far corner
lifeless yet free.
It feels no regret
because it was almost time
to untie the dead bonds of the tree
than shackle itself to death and decay.
What is lost, is lost with a cost.
That leaf no more bejewels the tree.
With no identity, it drifts away
no more hanging by the branch
no more dancing in the wind.
Land is the new home.
And now mixed with soil and dust
back into the muddy depths of earth,
there’s new hope, new identity, new life
and just like that
life moves on…
