An Introduction to Linocut Printmaking
Printmaking is a unique art form where drawing, carving, and printing come together to create images that can be reproduced and transformed in surprising ways.
This workshop offers an introduction to the fundamentals of linocut printmaking, guiding participants through the process from the first idea to the final printed image. Beginning with an overview of printmaking techniques and tools, participants will learn how to develop a design, understand mirror images, and safely handle carving tools.
Through hands-on exercises, students will practice carving simple motifs, experiment with mark-making on lino, and gradually work towards creating a more detailed print. The workshop will explore the relationship between drawing, carving, and printing while encouraging patience, observation, and playful experimentation.
Participants will learn the basics of inking and hand-printing techniques such as spoon printing, and will produce a series of prints of their own design. If time and resources allow, prints may also be transferred onto surfaces such as tote bags.
The workshop is open to anyone curious about printmaking, whether you enjoy drawing, crafting, or exploring new artistic processes.
