FROM SELF TO STAGE: Theatre and Performance Workshop
Fundamentals of theatre and performance
This workshop introduces the students to the fundamentals of theatre and performance through interactive sessions. It begins with gamified exercises that help the students open up, express confidently and understand social interactions in a deeper manner. They will be introduced to the theatre fundamentals – writing, direction, acting, music, art, and production.
The workshop explores key tools of performance – including voice, breath, walk, movement, expressions, and actions through these sessions. The workshop will explore Navrasas (nine emotions), and how to mould them into a story, followed by an introduction to acting and improvisation methods. We will further take them through the concepts of writing a story and characterisation through these stories.
These exercises will be based on foundational acting approaches inspired by Augusto Boal, Stanislavski, Viola Spolin, and Charles Chaplin. The culmination will include both stage acts and improv performances where all children will participate. We conclude with an understanding of theatre as a medium for creative expression, storytelling, and performance
