Mariam Karim Ahlawat

Mariam Karim-Ahlawat is a French Language and Literature pedagogue, editor, and writer of fiction for children and adults. Born in Lucknow, she studied at Jawaharlal Nehru University and the Sorbonne, Paris. Her debut novel My Little Boat (Penguin India, 2003) was nominated for the IMPAC Award and Hutch Crossword Award. The Street of Mists was longlisted for the Man Asian Prize 2009. Her plays have received recognition from the Hindu MetroPlus Playwright Awards. She has contributed to international literary journals and anthologies, including Siècle 21, South Asian Review, and PEN International Women Writers Anthology. She has published several children’s books with Tulika and HarperCollins, and wrote for Parenting Magazine for over a decade. Mariam has also worked on creative multimedia projects for children and wrote educational columns for The Times of India. She collaborated with Johns Hopkins University on books for children affected by HIV, now distributed via NGOs and Vitasta Publishers.
