Naren Singh Rao

Academician and Lawyer

Naren Singh Rao is an academician, practising lawyer, and writer-editor. For over a decade, he has taught diverse social science subjects at varied institutions, including the SACAC and the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), JNU Campus, New Delhi.
An alumnus of the University of Delhi (DU), South Asian University (SAU), and the IIMC, his academic qualifications include a Master of Philosophy in Humanities, an UGC-NET, a Master of Laws, and Master of Arts degrees in Sociology, and English and Mass Communication.
Deeply committed to the ideals of justice, equality and fraternity, Naren has latterly turned to practising law, with a particular focus on criminal and human rights cases.
Beyond this, he is a passionate writer and editor. His writings appear on various pro-people media platforms including The Mainstream Weekly, The Wire, The Citizen, Countercurrents.org, among others.
Naren is a founding editor of The Independent Ink, a not-for-profit, offbeat media avenue. Previously, he edited Justicia, a democratic rights magazine, and Academic Corridor, an e-journal of academic discourse.
Best known for his egalitarian approach to pedagogy, Naren, whilst at SACAC, imparts his multidisciplinary knowledge through a critical methodology, fostering intellectual curiosity and unfettered creative expression.
