Nitin Joshi is a distinguished documentary photographer, educator and a vivid traveller, deeply connected to his heritage as a member of the Jaunsari tribe from the village of Chattou, located in the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand. Raised in Delhi, Nitin completed his schooling there before attending Symbiosis International University in Pune, where he obtained both a BBA and an MBA in Media & Communication. In 2014, Nitin’s passion for photography and storytelling emerged, leading him to pursue social documentary projects with a focus on narratives from his village and community, along with broader themes surrounding national development. His work embodies the richness of his cultural roots, highlighting untold stories from rural India. Dedicated to authentic representation, he often travels throughout India to gain a comprehensive perspective on his subjects. Between May 2021 and April 2024, Nitin served as a Faculty (Assistant Professor) at the Symbiosis School of Visual Arts and Photography (SSVAP), sharing his knowledge with aspiring photographers. His academic achievements also include a Post-Graduate Diploma in Creative Documentary Photography from the Sri Aurobindo Centre for Arts and Communication, which complements his strong foundation in media and communication management. With over a decade of experience, Nitin continues to push the boundaries of documentary photography. He is currently exploring the art of bookmaking, with aspirations to create photo books that capture impactful stories with the power to inspire and provoke thought.
